******************************************************************************** ***************************Team Benwell Short Test Report*********************** ******************************************************************************** Test Number: 002 Name: Ian Foxwell Chassis: NF502 chassis no. 1 Date: 19-04-02 Time: 19.00 Place: Travel lodge Gravesend Weather: Dry Object of test: Rear shock test + rake angle + effect of weight ******************************************************************************** Modifications: 5000 wt oil + FG diaphragm + cut down (slightly stiffer )internal spring + gold titanium nitride shock shaft + hole drilled in cap All the above was required to fit the FG diaphragm. Its very deep and hit the piston at normal ride height. Internal spring was cut down to ensure that at normal ride height it was only just having an effect. Damper felt slightly higher damped than with 5000wt and no diaphragm ******************************************************************************** Results: Not easy to say exactly with out back to back test which is not viable unless we get a second shock. Didn’t feel as though it put the power down as nicely but was generally much more secure Drifted nicely to the extent that it didn’t feel as though it was actually sliding. Bike felt overall that it had more rear end grip! even though that contradicts my opening line No apparent rising or falling under braking or acceleration as before which probably helped the feeling of security. Verdict. I’m sticking with it. May play with stiffer oil at some point but I’m not in a hurry at the mo Once happy with shock ran bike with rider figure removed to prepare for rake angle tests Bike noticeably more lively. Accelerated, braked and changed direction much quicker and more positively. MUST GO THROUGH LIGHTENING EXERCISE AT SOME POINT....... Hard to tell if bike handled differently but did feel as though it cornered faster, bust that may have just been the psychological affect caused by the extra responsiveness. CHECK THIS OUT SOME TIME WITH STOP WATCH. Changed rake angle from max to approx 3 turns on screw. Strange feeling. Bike seemed more stable in straight line, i.e. didn’t want to turn as easily at speed. HOWEVER. more unstable in terms of wriggles tank slappers etc. Turned better at slow speed but that may just have been as a result of increased ground clearance at front. MORE TESTING REQUIRED. Generally preferred bike in max rake position. Just felt safer and easier to ride. MORE TESTING WITH A WATCH REQUIRED.
