******************************************************************************** ***************************Team Benwell Short Test Report*********************** ******************************************************************************** Test Number: 010 Name: Ian Foxwell Chassis: NF502 chassis no. 1 Date: 21-04-02 Time: 09.10 Place: Travel lodge Gravesend Weather: Dry Object of test: Effect of more preload on steering springs Best tyre combination for bike in current setup. Note front break will effect best choice of front tyre. ******************************************************************************** Modifications: Steering preset length set to 26mm ******************************************************************************** Results: Steering Just as expected. Less low speed steering but more response. Personally feel that approx 28mm preload is going to be best compromise. Interestingly I couldn’t say now that one system is any better than another.... However a 2mm spring adjustment feels the same as a 1mm silicon adjustment implying that although fiddlier it is easier to fine tune the springs. Conclusion though is that I don’t really care which I use. I would like to try on a fast track though especially with Yellow Silicon which I feel may be better then... See below Tyres Note all practicing up to this point has been with cut slick front and standard slick rear. Done to enable the rear to be steered under power and not loose the front under breaking Cut slicks all round Couldn’t break the back at all. Seriously hindered medium to high speed turns. Cant be drifted.... However I’m not sure how much drifting is gonna be possible on a tight track, stood on a rostrum with out the ability to hear the bike so they may be better because of the extra security provided. Standard tyres all round Much easier to drift rear. Front tyre steers much better... MUCH BETTER. However this increased steering has bought back the oscillations. I think Ill leave it like this and play with steering dampers next. Interestingly breaking performance did not suffer significantly. It is not possible to run full breaks any way as they are almost to fierce, and this tyre just prevents me from breaking right into a corner. However with the increased steering this wasn’t as important. Standard front cut rear Didn’t try, didn’t see any point, just the worst aspects of both.
