******************************************************************************** ***************************Team Benwell Short Test Report*********************** ******************************************************************************** Test Number: 027 Name: Ian Foxwell Chassis: NF502 chassis no. 2 Date: 16-05-02 Time: 10.30-12.00 Place: Travel lodge Weather: dry warm almost hot Object of test: Motor, gearing and braking tests ******************************************************************************** Modifications: Run all three motors 12 x 3 13 x 1 14 x 5 all geared on 24!!! 93 The gear ratio chosen was original done to try and get the best out of the 14t motor but was used for all to investigate the effect of possible over gearing hot motors in bikes standard gearing 13x69 = 5.31 mod gearing 24x93 = 3.87 ******************************************************************************** Results: 14t All most to much low speed grunt?? not expected. Good speed in the chosen gear ration 13t Superb. probably over geared for almost any where but may suit very long Brooklands straight. definitely to much for the car park but interestingly no detrimental effect on performance. The bikes acceleration appears to be limited more by weight and grip than gearing. Over geared enabled the back wheel to be spun up at almost any speed providing better control although you have to keep on your toes. 12t Not as good as the 13 but ok. Gearing up has reduced the low speed torque so its now actually much easier to drive. Still enough power at most speeds. Conclusions Gearing up makes an enormous difference to the breaking. I went from 50% programmed rear breaking power to 100%!!! Gearing up is good generally for high speed steering as it allows the rear to be drifted at higher speeds. Gearing up is bad for motors and duration. Motors now getting warm and showing signs of wear after just one run where none was previously apparent after hours of use. I will struggle to make 8 min on a fast track with these 1700’s As they are giving nearly 2000mha I think im gonna need some 2400’s BUGGER
